And that box is really the only surprise – that Microsoft has finally admitted defeat in the console wars and has decided to just build a PC that’s limited to Xbox gaming. That’s not a console. You can’t fit that underneath your TV in any ‘entertainment centre’ in any sane person’s home. Even though Microsoft has “designed the Xbox Series X to support both vertical and horizontal orientation.”

Lying on its side the chunky Xbox cuboid is still well over six inches tall, so is Microsoft deluded enough to believe that its design is so “bold and unique” that people will want to show it off, give it pride of place in their living room and not want to hide it away like practically every other piece of home entertainment tech ever made?

After 17-year-old Jarvis Khattri's emotional response to being issued a lifetime ban from "Fortnite" for using "aimbots," a software hack, FaZe Clan has issued a statement seeking a "fair compromise" with Epic Games.

Khattri is a member of the hugely popular competitive esports team FaZe Clan, which he joined after his older brother Frazier Khattri (FaZe Kaye) began featuring him in YouTube videos.

In a statement shared with Insider, FaZe Clan said it will "remain hopeful and stand ready to work with Epic Games in any way possible to come up with opportunity [sic] that allows Jarvis to play again at some point in his life."

Previously, "Fortnite" maker Epic Games told Insider that cheat software like Khattri used in YouTube videos was subject to a "zero tolerance policy," but members of FaZe Clan like FaZe Banks have argued that Khattri's punishment was unfair compared to other disciplinary actions taken by Epic Games.

Parker says the foundation of the modern OS will be enablers (“that deliver the foundational experiences customers expect from their devices”) and delighters (“that deliver innovative human centric experiences”). Enablers consist of seamless updates that occur in the background without any interruptions, comprehensive protection from malicious attacks, the ability to be connected to Wi-Fi and 5G at all times, and sustained performance.

Delighters, on the other hand, are what elevate the experience of actually using an OS. Cloud connectivity, intelligent AI, multi-sense interaction, and something Parker calls “form factor agility,” which is quite a buzz-phrase. Finally, here is an interesting quote from Parker about the so-called modern OS from Microsoft:

These enablers and delighters underpin our vision for a Modern OS, they will provide the foundational elements for an evolution of the PC ecosystem and enable partners to deliver the more human-centric experiences of tomorrow. Microsoft is investing to enable these modern OS experiences, and to deliver new ones that take advantage of silicon advancements, powerful PCs, the cloud and power of AI.

Very true. Just another money maker until people finally get fed up with the same old crap year after year. Then, Activision will eventually do away with the franchise.

It’s getting to be the season for the Call of Duty 2019 reveal, which means it’s also the season for Call of Duty leaks. A bunch of sources – many very reliable ones – have revealed that the new game will simply be titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and that the new game will have a dark, gritty tone inspired by the infamous No Russian level in Modern Warfare 2.

We’ve heard lots of hints and rumours that a new Modern Warfare was coming in 2019, though we thought it was going to be Modern Warfare 4. This morning, YouTuber LongSensation tweeted “Call of Duty 2019 is called… Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. I’m not joking.” Shortly after that tweet went live, the news was corroborated by multiple other sources.

It’s to be a “soft reboot” of the Modern Warfare series, Kotaku reports, set to launch this fall from Infinity Ward. “It’ll be heavy on troubling, realistic emotions, very much inspired by the controversial No Russian campaign in Modern Warfare 2 that allowed the player to gun down civilians.”

If you were going to spend $600K+ on a PC what would you look to get out of it? Obviously you’d want it to be able to run Crysis, but you’d also be expecting some serious computational chops on the scale of a monstrous server machine. Maybe something that will ray trace your games at 144Hz on a 4K screen, or render 8K special effects without breaking a sweat.

But what you might not be after is a Samsung netbook (remember them?) so infested with the world’s most dangerous malware if you were able to connect it to a network it would take any linked computer down before you can say Matrix. But, in an online auction, The Persistence of Chaos 10-inch NC10 netbook is available for anyone to buy and has already topped the $600K mark… and is still going.

In order to get around the fact that this is arguably the world’s most dangerous laptop, and someone is set to make a quick buck off it, the machine in question is being auctioned off as art. Hence the borderline pretentious name.

On The Persistence of Chaos (via Gamereactor) are six of the most costly pieces of malware ever spread, with a combined bill of $95bn between them. You may recognise some of them… there’s the ILOVEYOU virus, the MyDoom and SoBig worms, the WannaCry ransomware, the DarkTequila malware, and the BlackEnergy rootkit which caused a large-scale blackout in Ukraine back in 2015.

Ubisoft has confirmed to us that the upcoming Ghost Recon Breakpoint will be an Epic Games Store exclusive. Much like other recent Ubisoft releases like Anno 1800 and The Division 2, the new Ghost Recon game will launch on PC via the Epic Games Store, alongside Ubisoft’s own digital distribution service Uplay.

EA has issued a comment regarding reports that it’s cancelled an open world Star Wars title in favour of a smaller, leaner production – sort of. The statement doesn’t directly address the cancellation, but it does say that the Vancouver team is continuing to work on what “will evolve into future Star Wars content and games,” which more or less fits with those earlier reports.

“There’s been speculation overnight about one of our Star Wars projects,” EA says in a statement circulated to various outlets. “As a natural part of the creative process, the great work by our team in Vancouver continues and will evolve into future Star Wars content and games. We’re fully committed to making more Star Wars games, we’re very excited about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn, and we’ll share more about our new projects when the time is right.”

The project in question was formerly known as Ragtag, which was in the works at Visceral Games under former Uncharted director Amy Hennig. EA shut Visceral down in October 2017. Ragtag was then handed off to EA Vancouver with support from EA Motive under Jade Raymond, while Hennig quietly left the company in January, saying that Vancouver had rebooted Ragtag, turning it from a linear action-adventure to an open-world game. Raymond, perhaps or perhaps not incidentally, also left EA near the end of October 2018.
