If I recall VAC is very resource light. I don't think I've ever read about VAC causing lag. Tripwire gave me some basics of how it would work but I can't speak about that right now.

Biggest news that applies to PBBans is they are using VAC and PunkBuster. PBBans will fully support RO2 as I have been talking with various members of Tripwire over the last few months to help make it happen. They are a great group to talk with. They also said RO2 will have ranked and unranked servers. Anyone can host a unranked. As for ranked they said there will be official servers but server admins will have the ability to submit their servers to be included for ranked server status. This is the first game (That I know of) to use both VAC and PunkBuster. I'm very happy that Tripwire decided to use both because I know the competitive community prefers using PunkBuster because of the additional functionality and streaming. Tripwire has gained a lot of my respect for listening to competitive gamers and PC gamers in general. Lets hope other developers that favor VAC will see the light and offer players a choice in anti-cheat.

That's the world of business. Makes me wonder if steam had the agreement in place before Origin and now EA broke it on purpose to make Valve / Steam look like the bad guy.
