The steam chatter is either to go to a download server which puts files on your PC, or swap the iw3mp.exe for a 1.7 version. Might have to try that. Thanks for your help. UPDATE: I gave him my iw3mp.exe, v1.7x, which he swapped with Steam's 1.8. I can confirm that it works on a 1.7 server. No problems. Stress over.

I believe there was an exploit that affect lots of the cod games and they got patched, including Cod4, although cod4 wasn't actually affected by the exploit. This makes it 1.8 and what Steam uses. There is also another patch, a community patch for cod4x or something. Not sure if this is just a modded version? Some love it some hate it. Most of the links on the SCS site to help are 'forbidden'. I added the SCS server to Qtracker, it is v1.7. In the Gametracker chat, one has posted, "hi make sure your patch is set to 1.7 as if ya got it from steam it is set to 1.8 all info can be found on our website at http://scsclan.org/index.html". I didnt really want to register and I can't see it anywhere else on the site. Reading a bit more around the subject, the 1.8 update seems to replace the iw3mp.exe, so he might just have to use my 1.7 version. At least he knows that's clean, and just hope it doesn't mess anything else up!

Can't edit so should explain, the 'downgrade servers' seem to reinstall an earlier version of cod4, but heaven knows what else. The 1.7 file I'm referring to is the iw3mp.exe. If that works, safely, I could just give him mine. I'm reluctant to go with the 'trial and error' approach!

Hi I have a clan mate who wants to play a bit of cod4 again. He has the the steam version which is v1.8. However, the servers he wants to join are v1.7. I don't have the steam version so I can't help him, I read about downgrade servers, that install stuff, and tools for this that and the other, but naturally I'm wary of suggesting he installs anything of the internet, in case he ends up banned! I also read that you can just use the 1.7 file, which obviously I have, and replace the 1.8 file. Does anyone have experience of this? I don't want him banned.

Just to add to this, 49 users in the last 24 hours. Over 30 of those were either streaming or streaming-lite users. What price to keep your servers clean, folks?

I've been watching and noticing the same 10 or 12 people donating each month. Out of 15,948 teams and 184 streaming servers that is really a poor show. When you need PBBans help, when you need to cross-reference the story and history of a person who wants to join your clan, you will be sorry that you didn't give a little bit of money each month to PBBans to keep it going. Does no-one care now? I've heard clan leaders say that they know X has a ban, but they are not going to do anything about it, because it's not in a game they play any more. Or it was years ago. Or maybe the members like him/her and they don't want the person to leave, admins don't want to rock the boat. Where is the backbone? Or maybe it's too much effort to look someone up, check the records, cross-reference the history. That is just laziness. There is so much info in these databases. If you've never been able to see the GUID history because you didn't have access, you've missed so much. It's essential for checking accounts. Now you have the chance to use it if you donate. DO IT! If we are short each month, PBBans will close. You won't get the chance to check players again in this way. Don't lose it!

Looking forward to this one I didn't buy Wildlands until Uplay changed their T&Cs. It used to say words to the effect of, 'we have your details and we will pass them on to third parties as we see fit'. After GDPR regulations that changed, so I bought Wildlands. Great game. This new one looks good too.

cod4 still lives Freezetag I like the most but still play search and destroy.

Can I ask why? I've never played battle royal either, my fps games got stuck at cod4. I'm just curious...

Whilst attempting to block a browser-window-starting/new-tab-opening iPhoneX ad-thing, I thought I should 'refresh' Firefox, which basically starts off from scratch but just keeps the bookmarks. Since doing that, some websites have a green ghost on the text and horizontal lines when scrolling, none worse so than the PBBans home page! It was NOT like that before the refresh, and I vaguely remember I fixed it once before, but I can't find how! Has anyone else had this and fixed it? I've turned off the hardware acceleration on Firefox already. Help! EDIT While trying to catch a printscreen of the effect I noticed I get the same effect if I move the screenshot around. So I'm guessing it's not the browser's fault but somehow, suddenly, a monitor or graphics issues. I have no idea why, as other than a load of malware/adware tests (all negative) I have only refreshed the browser. Help still required if anyone knows how to fix it.
