SuperTaz
http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10321&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2014/09/03/unofficial-windows-xp-sp4-launched-microsoft-os-lives-on/?ss=Security In May I commented that Windows XP is more difficult to kill than Wolverine and four months on it does indeed appear that the operating system was coded using Adamantium. How? Well despite having been discarded by Microsoft MSFT +1.41% in April, the 12 year old OS just received Service Pack 4. Needless to say this isn’t Microsoft demonstrating yet another generous act of utter stupidity, but the work of its diehard fanbase. Dubbed the ‘Unofficial Service Pack 4’, credit goes to Greece-based developer harkaz who started the project back in September 2013. The third beta has already been launched and, in true Microsoft fashion, a Release Candidate (RC) will be ready soon. “Many users – including me – who won’t be able to upgrade their old machines to a newer OS would like to easily install all Windows updates in one convenient package. For this reason, I started working on a Service Pack 4 package,” said harkaz on the RyanVM discussion boards. “Windows XP Unofficial SP4 ENU is a cumulative update rollup for Windows XP (x86) English,” he explained. “It can be applied to a live Windows XP system which has SP1, at minimum, installed or it can be slipstreamed (integrated) in any Windows XP installation media.”

halninekay
Really? Well there won't be any "new" updates for XP at all, except for those XP machines that are build into ATM's. :fryingpan:
Benway
the way more interesting post is: http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2014/05/27/simple-hack-gives-windows-xp-users-5-more-years-of-support/ Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady] "Installed"=dword:00000001Migrates WinXP Pro to WinXP Point of Service 2009 (see links below); no reboot is required. (resp. xp 64bit https://sebijk.com/community/board9-community/board5-pc/2985-getting-xp-updates/?s=0c2718baf1f23f7efb53200ee460a44318015a14 ) it works with other international xp sp3 32 versions not just ENG, and you can get rid of the stupid \Windows\system32\LegitCheckControl.dll joke-Version 1.9.42.0 (delete it before the .reg patch and the first update, its a useless Hoax anyway "solve this problem ... buy win 8 now"); embedded update brings back a working Version 1.8.31.9 Current result is 8 post-eos xp updates plus a ie 8 fix (although "security hole in ie" is a kinda cute concern :P ) What means POSReady? see the POSReady7 marketing drivel here. What is the difference between win xp and its embedded versions, like PE/WEPOS/WES/POSReady(WEI)? ... in a nutshell
