I use a setting of -20 & find it seems to help with long jumps (which is the intended effect). I don't know, it may just be a placebo. It's certainly a legacy CVAR. I'd tend to think alot of it has been rendered irrelevant by the antilag capabilities of newer mods.

Excellent! & np

I am not that familiar with how the BF2/BF2142 system works, but I'm pretty sure a new cd key (which = a new GUID) means a new account. Other more familiar players correct me if I'm wrong :P.

Bani never updated his mod for 1.41b. (something I always found hilarious is how shrub worked fine with 1.41b after all the railing the bani sycophants did about how great bani's work is) Anyway, a player named =FF=Im2good4you had a solution - a plug-in for the Quake 3 Multimod he called 'versionh4x' - it lies to the mod re which version the game is running. Quake 3 Multimod http://www.q3mm.org/ Version h4x for Rtcw 1.41b/banimod http://qmm.planetquake.gamespy.com/forums/...c.php?p=218#218 I've never used it myself, but I tried a modified version for lying to ET about the game version (to stop the stupid NQ message) and while it worked, I got corrupted memory image error kicks from PB. That said, supposedly the RtCW plug-in didn't have this problem (at least when it was released). edit -> fyi installing q3mm will also protect you against the old q3msgboom exploit. ;)

errr LOL ;)

I have thought about purchasing one of them before, but I'm really partial to Seagate drives. I have just always had good results with them and until recently they were the only company offering five year warranties. As I understand it, in benchmarks the difference between a 10K & a 7200RPM drive of equal size,cache,I/O is minimal. With the high capacity perpendicular recording drives now the difference between a 7200RPM drive & a 10K is even further reduced. In some benchmarks I have actually seen the 7200RPM drive beat the Raptor by a millisecond or two. I'd love to see specs of someone with a Gigabyte iDrive, though. I've always wondered what the performance is out of them.

I've heard of alot of people with problems with omnibots under 2.5x. I have never run omnibots myself so I have no experience with them, but I don't believe they were ever intended or supported on >2.60.

If you are not on the banlist here, then it is either a local ban or a ban from EvenBalance themselves.

Thus far I am somewhat depressed and somewhat not depressed. I don't like the longer load time. I suppose thats not their fault, it comes with the engine but it's just annoying compared to what I'm used to. The game doesn't seem to be the complete disappointment I was expecting. In fact, I am surprised at just how non-sucky it seems. On the other hand, I have no real clue what I'm doing, so I can't really comment on many aspects of gameplay yet, lol.

http://www.gofear.com/files/F.E.A.R.ServerShield.v1.0.zip That's the 1.0 version. I'm not sure what the changes were from 1.0 to 1.1. It appears this isn't being actively developed anymore.

Repeat offenders - banned daily, repeatedly

Some might argue EA deserves no money for BF2 ;). /ot. -
Have had no client issues myself. For a (very) brief period today my servers could not resolve et1.evenbalance.com, but that resolved itself very quickly. I for one am greatful for the latest update. It took care of a nasty hack.
-
A brand of copy protection software used for CD's/DVD's. From what Ive read it gets installed even when you download the freeware. And it can do nasty stuff to your system. It's one of the more insidious brands of DRM. http://www.glop.org/starforce/

Does it still install StarForce DRM with it?

I've never had a problem with etadmin_mod. The last version I used, however, was 0.28. I actually ran it on Windows with Cygwin as well. Most of the features aren't needed with Jaymod so I've never added it back. All etadmin_mod commands are done from local rcon, that's why it needs your password ;). Any particular reason you are using campaigns? Just curious - I was always under the impression they caused more problems & headaches then they were worth. I am inclined to believe your problems stem in some way or other to the OmniBot you are running, but I have little experience in that area. I was told before that OmniBot wouldn't even work on 2.55, but have never tried it.

afaik, only the player banned can appeal.

Personally, I would say Valve's Anti-Cheat system is the worst overall, though they are more severe as your Steam account gets permabanned. Personally, I'd love to see EB start issuing hardware bans for more offenses, but overall, I don't see a better solution out there than PunkBuster.
-
Benway may be 100% correct, but I notice you are running the 1.00 build - any reason you haven't installed the 1.01 patch? Build Jun 24 2003 - it was put out specifically to address server stability. Link - for Linux, since that's what you're using - http://returntocastlewolfenstein.filefront.../ET_Patch;15597

What ET version/mod?
-
Get yourself streaming ASAP, it's easy and the best thing you can do to protect yourself from hackers (besides sv_punkbuster 1 ofc). It should be MANDATORY for all anti-cheat ET admins ;).

ROFL @ "a condom over your Lan cable is as effective as norton :P". So so true. Never have I seen a company go from such quality software to such junk as Symantec did with the Norton brand of products.

If you haven't already, ban his IP (either through admin functionality of shrublike mods, etadmin_mod, ect) or through pb_sv_banMask "IP Address". If he keeps coming back, ban his subnet, ie the first digits of his IP address (if it was say 192.192.192.192 you'd do pb_sv_banMask "192.192." He can only receive so many new IPs, thus subnet bans effectively take care of the troublemakers 99% of the time. The drawback is that you are also potentially banning innocent players, so perhaps a one week subnet ban will scare him away & he'll lose interest. Complaining to the ISP is also another option you can try. They vary on their responses (and general care level) & tend to be more concerned about malicious attacks then ban circumvention, but it is an option to try. Hope this helps! ps -> Get your server streaming to PBBans! ;)

I never did have this problem, course I installed the PB services long ago. But I never noticed that many players getting kicked from my servers either.

Odd you are having high CPU usage. Might want to submit a trouble ticket to EvenBalance. They use less than 1% on my system.
