What do you think of PBBans.com?
-=Garbage DinGo=- replied to RodeoBob's topic in General Discussions
I asked for this around 18 months ago but it is the resposibility of the poster to do this not the admins. I feel the subject should start with the name of the game . ie SOF2, RTCW or whatever. Problem is however that it's worth reading about all PB matters. If it doesn't relate to your game now it could well do in the future :) -
Soldier of Fortune II Authentication Server Disabled
-=Garbage DinGo=- replied to MaydaX's topic in Soldier of Fortune 2
I recently emailed Evenbalance on the Vista black pbss problem and status of their current level of support for SOF2. Their comment on the support question: "As for SoF2 support, yes, we are still supporting it. Don't mistake the lack of a PB client update as a lack in us adding detections, as most detections only require changing things on our end, and not a change of the client." So only a brief comment and to me a bit non commital. -

Actually those are the settings I'm using at the moment but they still get some getting used to as everything is a bit squashed. It seems that it's impossible to run at a resolution of 1680 x 1050 so I guess I'll just have to get used to it. -

Hmmm  Thanks but think I'll give it a miss for now. -

Could produce some interesting PB kicks or not? Have you a link for this patch Maester? -
If you mean you are just getting pickups and can't select say an AK to use throughout the game then the cvar is g_pickupsdisabled "1" This can be used on a per map basis so if you want pickups on certain maps you can include the cvar g_pickupsdisabled "0"into those maps and g_pickupsdisabled "1" into the ones where you don't want pickups. . If you do this through rcon rather than manually editing the mapcycle or config file then don't put in the "" ie g_pickupsdisabled 1 Hope this is of some help

Thanks for the help fozzer but I've spent hours googling this and read countless posts on forums. All to no avail. Think I'll try the scaling options in my nvidia driver control panel to see if I can get some results. Or as I said before it's down to shooting small dumpy men with big heads. Hmmm should increase my number of headshotS though  -

Doesn't work fozzer. I know it works with all the other games based on the Quake engine but for some reason not SoF2. I'll just have to shoot small dumpy people with big heads :D -

Thanks for the fast reply Benway but sorry to say this doesn't work. seta r_mode "-1" sets itself back to 3 automatically :( -
I've just got a Samsung 22" widescreen monitor which has a natural resolution of 1680 x 1050. I can force this resolution in SoF2 single player but not in multi player. Anyone know of a fix for this?

I opened up a support ticket with Evenbalance regarding black PBSS in Vista and asking about their current level of support for SOF2. I got the reply below. Note #2: Your statement is a bit over-generalized, as there are plenty of people running Vista whose screenshots come out just fine. However, we do know that there are some video drivers for the higher end video cards that are causing black screenshots, and hopefully these driver issues will be resolved quickly. As for SoF2 support, yes, we are still supporting it. Don't mistake the lack of a PB client update as a lack in us adding detections, as most detections only require changing things on our end, and not a change of the client. I hope that answers your questions.

Hi Kami m8. Not seen you for a while, playing or otherwise. Sorry can't advise you on your particular problem but it is seeming that Vista is proving to be a big thorn in the side for SOF2 players. A lot are having probs like yourself but also some who have got it working are now seeing themselves banned from some public servers for constantly returning black pbss. I personally feel it's easier to use XP for SOF2 as life is too short to solve one problem only to be confronted by another one. Yeah a cop out I guess but I'm after an easy life at the mo'. Perhaps you could run a dual boot system with XP & Vista. Hopefully others here will be able to help you out.

Tnx for the heads up Maydax but as others have said it's likely to be a hoax. I hope it is true but won't be holding my breath.

Would this be ok?
-=Garbage DinGo=- replied to -=Garbage DinGo=-'s topic in Streaming Questions and Troubleshooting
Well not a few weeks for me but around 4 days lol. I had the server full last night with 20 players and guess what.........................everyones ping shot up to around 100ms and the server became unplayable. Still np I just got the players to move over to my Jolt server :) -

Thanks again fozzer I'll certainly give that a try as I've always been happy with the way Jolt servers run. -

-=Garbage DinGo=- replied to -=Garbage DinGo=-'s topic in Streaming Questions and Troubleshooting
Thanks fozzer, I thought that would be the case but thought I'd check all the same. Reason for me wanting to change to another hosting company is purely financial. I've always paid for servers out of my own pocket but as SoF2 servers see much less usage these days (my server is only used around 3 nights a week at most) Jolts prices are becoming a bit over the top compared to others. Trying out this new server and so far so good. I will be laying out £60 for a 20 slot server for 6 months compared to Jolts' £127.50 for 16 slots. So long as it runs as smooth as the Jolt one I'll be having it. Oh and support is around 20 times faster than our m8 JX  -
My SoF2 server 195.149.21.142:20100 streams to both the rep and the hub. This server is nearing the end of it's rental period and I'm trialing a server from another company for a month. This company has its servers streaming to PsB rep by default. The new server is running very smoothly and I may decide to stay with it and let the original one go when the rental expires. As we seem to have a better relationship with PsB now would there be any problems if this server was set to stream to PsB rep and PBBans hub or would there be a problem with this? The company in question allow me to stream to whoever I want but the way I look at is the more the merrier.

If a player comes on my server using a no fog hack I tend to give him 3 chances to remove the offending file after explaining why he is getting kicked. If he still continues to use this I then issue a local permanent ban.

Soldier of Fortune II Authentication Server Disabled
-=Garbage DinGo=- replied to MaydaX's topic in Soldier of Fortune 2
omg I can see my life as a SoF2 server admin becoming harder. Currently as well as running my own Jolt SoF2 Gold server I'm also admin on a SoF2 version 1 server (no PB) where I spend more time speccing suspect players than actually gaming myself. I'm just hoping EvenBalance supports SoF2 until another game comes out with the same great playability of SoF2. -

IMHO I can foresee a large increase in the use of working keygens so new players with recently bought CDs won't have to use the supplied key. -

-=Garbage DinGo=- replied to .:BoS:.Gringo's topic in Soldier of Fortune 2
Well surely that's no problem. Just get him to do pb_sv_enable followed by pb_sv_update then do pb_sv_restart in the console. Takes but a few minutes and updates the clientside as well. -

Two of my clan kicked for this last night on our server. Both using AVG Antivirus. -
If you have just done a fresh install of sof2 then I doubt my suggestion will work :(

One thing that I have seen before is that for some reason such as a PC crash your CD Key gets scrambled and gives out incorrect information. One thing to try is go into your sof2/base/mp directory and delete the file named sof2key. Start up SoF2 and it will ask you to enter your CD key, do as it says and then try and join your server. I'm not promising anything but have known this to work before.
