I have to shut down the PC and try again but it just keeps freezing... some times I can get to play one game or two... but as soon as the map is loading it freezes again... Anyone know what can I do to be able to play once again!? Thanks

RodeoBob
Well.....if it was running normally before......you either have some malware/trojans on your system.....or some serious hardware issues......if it is hardware, use this tool to fix:
Bebe
I'm sorry forgot to post that... Game = Call of duty 4 Patch = 1.7 OS = Windows XP Pro Sp3 CPU: AMD PhenomX4 Memory: 4GB Video Card: 8500GT I just reformatted, so I don't think it's adwares or viruses.... LMAO, I am about to use a hammer, not a bad choice ;) Edited October 12, 2008 by Bebe

RoadWarrior
If you're using onboard sound, check to see if it's a RealTek chip by openning your device manager. If so, and bizarre as this may sound, simply plug something into the microphone jack. Even a pair of headphones, if you don't have a mic or headphones/mic combo will work. Some bug within the RealTek drivers causes this issue, and that fix has worked for a fair number of people already.
RAMC
Download Speedfan. Chances are your GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is overheating, and you might need a new fan. Might also be drivers. Got to the Nvidia Drivers Site. Choose 'Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products.' (Click 'Graphics Drivers') You'll get latest drivers, and a tune program. Go to GPU settings in the tune program, click 'Direct Fan Control', up it a bit. Try that ;)
Bebe
Hmm, did a new fresh install of windows vista ultimate 64bit, and everything seems to be working fine. Thank you all for all the help
RAMC
You should have tried my tips before the dreaded OS reinstalls :o OH, by the way. Vista sucks
Bebe
I tried what you said, but not with SpeedFan, my motherboard comes with a program that you can speed things up... and tried that, also had the latest drives for my video card too... wasn't working. Vista is alright :) if you run vista with low requirements of course people say it sucks :P
RoadWarrior
I've been running Vista for a while now, and personally, I like it. People said XP sucks too, when it first came out, just as they did for Win2K and Win98. Now, if you said WinME sucked, we'd all have to agree with you. ;)
holback
I've been running Vista for a while now, and personally, I like it. People said XP sucks too, when it first came out, just as they did for Win2K and Win98. Now, if you said WinME sucked, we'd all have to agree with you. ;) I use both Vista Business and XP. Both are okay, but XP is better for gaming, uses less resources. I worked for Dell when ME was released, what a nightmare. Constant reinstalls. We finally started giving away Win 98. I have run cod4 on Vista with no problem. These are the steps I used to make it work (assuming you have the hardware to run it on Vista and you are the administrator). Install game, but don't run it. Install pbsetup (http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php) and update PB. Start the multiplayer, search for PB enabled server. You appear to be having hardware issues or something running in the background that is interfering/conflicting with the game on start up. Disable all programs, including windows firewall, your anti-virus and spyware and try again to rule out a software problem. Either way it is very hard to troubleshoot a problem of this nature online. If you can't get it working I would install XP on a separate drive or partition for gaming and use Vista for everything else.
