Humm, true but most have that turned off. But that is another way I know it's streaming. :)

Anyway, maybe it's a good idea maybe not. I'd love to see something like the 3 scenarios I came up implemented, but if it's not at the top of your development list I completely understand. ;)

Many times I find myself in a server wondering if it's streaming to PBBans. Yes I know I can paste the IP into the website, but it's not exactly convenient and in fact offers only a snapshot of that moment. I have a great deal more confidence in the legitemacy of players around me when I know that the server is streaming PBBans, because of the detection yes but mostly because I know that the ban list of 10k+ in COD4 is being enforced. I prefer to play in streaming servers, and the defacto way I create a mental list of them is remembering which ones had the ban announcements show up in them. There has to be a way to know, definitively, if the server you are in is currently streaming. I have a couple ideas with various pros and cons I'd like to throw out there: Possibility 1: Bi-hourly broadcast. Ever half hour, in a style similar to the ban announcements, the server announces it is streaming to PBBans. Pros: -Lets all players know that the server is in fact streaming and it has not been disabled. -Instills confidence in the players that the admins are overtly anti-cheat. -Advertises PBBans -Is very simple to code. Cons: -Is very simple to impersonate. A team could turn streaming off during a match and then have a macro to announce that it is streaming. -Only gives an indication at that time. Have to wait up to 30 minutes to find out. -Most resource intensive possibility -Scares cheaters away before they get caught, if you consider that a con. Possibility 2: Streaming status on demand. Whenever a player types in global chat the word "Streaming" followed by a question mark, the hub announces that it is in fact streaming. For example if I say "streaming?" or "is this server streaming?", it would in effect reply. Pros: -On demand, instant answer. -Not as resource intensive or "spammy" as regular announcements -To prevent clutter, the answer could be sent to just that player with the pb_sv_say component. For instance if someone in slot 5 queries if the server is streaming, the hub sends back "pb_sv_say 5 Server is streaming to PBBans" -Not duplicatable by the admins because they can't alway see what you're typing Cons: -Possible flood issues if someone macros the word "streaming". Possibility 3: Streaming status to "secret requests" The hub only sends streaming status to players who have a specific cvar set. For instance, /seta streamingstatus 1 When the server does a cvar walk past that player it will send them back a pb_sv_say to their slot number letting only them know that streaming is active. Pros: -Little resources needed as only those that want to know will have that cvar set -Not spammy at all. -Completely automatic and intermidant once you set it. -Can be disabled at any time by setting cvar to 0 Cons: -Can't think of any. Doesn't really let the "average player" know as it is somewhat covert.

IE6 sucks. IE7 is an improvement if you don't use Firefox.

Leagues would take action against you for for it, and server admins may ban if they see it. Just because punkbuster isn't setup to detect something doesn't mean it's OK. :)

Case in point. http://www.pbbans.com/mbi-viewban-18eb953c-vb84771.html

I have seen a message say "You are about to be kicked for inactivity" and "Blah blah was kicked for inactivity" in the bottom left, so it's not an outside RCON system or that would use the console. If I remember what server does that I'll ask the admin for the setting.

Wait, 13% of GUIDs are banned in COD4? Rodeo Bob said there were over 1.1 million GUIDs tracked as of June, so the math must be off?
-
Most likely you had the UCON settings in memory and they weren't written to disk. After a restart or pb update, the config wouldn't exist. Or possibly the auto update of MD5/CVARs overwrote something.
-
cvars didn't cause that, but as a side note, that file has over 400 entries. I wouldn't just go run some huge config without checking it out first. :o

I knew that the new nVidia drivers were considered a cheat at 3dMark Vantage...but now PB Games?
-
Well, bans ARE permanent. They don't go away no matter how many times you reinstall your operating system... If you still wish to pursue your trouble ticket I wish you luck.
-
Well, uninstall it if you're not sure. Or at least play a PB game that doesn't cost $50 to find out lol...

This game looks like good mindless fun, sort of a mix of Battlefield and Team Fortress. :) Check out the trailer if you haven't: http://www.battlefield-heroes.com/videos/c...mization-teaser

If you one of the textures to Low it sets that cvar I believe.
-
What other issues does this cause?

I'm good with a 12 minute session in the morning and a 12 minute session at night

Haha, yah I use my gmail for IMAP. If you use the web access the ad-words are just creepy. You could read an email about someone's girlfriend being pregnant and get an ad for condoms lmao

I was channel surfing trying to fall asleep...it should be illegal for anything this unintentionally hilarous to be on TV that late at night. Go here and then click the play button next to "How to use Back2Life"
-
You think that's bad? Oh that and... Everyone support TWL by getting cheats and a pre-arranged marriage! :P
-
It changes a setting thats in your config file anyway, and has to do with the lag adjustment. Too low and things tend to skip around, too high and you'll get shot a full second after you run safely around a corner.

If theres latecy and the server calculates you didn't shoot / throw something before you died, it never happened.

In regards to privacy concerns, Punkbuster is an invasive tool that checks your system and returns data to Evenbalance and servers that you connect to. You accepted this when you installed it. Because of this, it's wise not to have anything with sensitive information open when you are gaming. IE, don't have an Excel file with all of your passwords open while you're in a game server. While it is not the intent of Punkbuster to screenshot your desktop, it is possible.
