  1. It's definitely not as relevant with newer games. Much of that is built into the engine. To be perfectly straight forward, I can hold a solid fps rate of 333 in ET and COD4, haven't checked it in ETQW or BF2(not sure if the last has a check for it). With ET patched to 2.60b, fps/rate/trick jumping was pretty limited, and mods of the game limited it even further to limit the playing field to level-ground without so much limiting the fps, but more what a single player could do with it. COD4 is optimized at 60fps by design, and meant to maintain it. Fixed_physics amongst other settings were put in place to limit to much "kiddie-ing" around. I'm sure some will find holes in it. You'll always get those in every game-engine/new game, looking for ways to beat the system and find that extra vantage point. I'm not saying I appreciate the script-kiddies much, and I generally ban them locally, if I see them getting onto buildings no one else can, but should fps really be limited to what people who only run one average vid-card can get vs someone who shelled out the bucks for dual 8800's of any sort in SLI or someone who shelled out for the latest ATI cards running in crossfire? May as well not have the technology at hand, if we're going to resort to limiting fps based on some owning lower-end equipment vs some owning higher-end equipment. It's not cheating, as they didn't spend money on a cheat, they spent money on hardware to gain performance. Seems a waste to spend money on it if server admin and leagues are going to limit it's usefulness.
  2. Personally, I don't care who sets the limit. 0 is game-default, and it works fine for high-end hardware, although the flux is rediculous. I can hit well over 500fps at times and then drop down to 60 the next second depending. I chose to set mine at one that holds fairly stable, and never goes below 60. TWL and other leagues are silly to do this, as limiting fps in a league is basically punishing someone for having an SLi/Crossfire rig with high-end hardware vs the person who has low-end equipment, and they're trying to level the playing field by doing so, but at the same time, they won't do it. Leaving the setting at 0 for low-end hardware users is actually fairly optimal, as opposed to trying to limit it to an fps bracket of one setting. They're increasing the distance in ability here, as I've proven personally, with having had lower-end hardware on my system before updating to newer hardware. The last upgrade was the vid-card, btw, everything else was high-end towards the end, and saw no real improvement until the vid-card was in place. The Nvidia 7300 was no screaming hell, but it was definitely above basic requirements, and had 512MB RAM, and it would barely hold 43fps. Game's stock config requires 0(unlimited) Dev's have claimed 60 as stable, but it won't work with some hardware. Basically, leagues will limit who is willing to play with them, in the near future, if this becomes a habit, and as well, it's really a server-side controlled aspect. My 2 cents. What TWL does on their own is their thing, and is not related to pbbans.
  3. htm files go in the htm folder inside of your pb folder, just to make sure you get them in the right place. If you've just installed ET on this box, a manual update will be required, as I've noted in the past with my own servers. Once the new htm files are in place, it should update on it's own just fine.
  4. pbbans does not ban based on etproguid. We ban by pbguid's only. Atm, we're not streaming live, so if this is within the last week, it can't be us that's giving you the ban. I won't speak for other a/c sites, not my place. Just what is happenning here atm, we didn't ban you, pretty sure of that issue, as our ban-list won't update without streaming, etc. There are some current issues with the latest pb update, though, for ET, so you may want to start by updating your pb for installed games with pbsetup.exe found at www.evenbalance.com, or put in a ticket with them again, if your problem continues.
  5. Haven't heard about evenbalance being down. PsB is down due to some upgrading on their end, hardware-wise. It's announced in their news-feeds as well as other sections of this forums. We're only down due to moving hardware to a new location, and should be up shortly. A two minute kick for an aimbot seems odd, but perhaps it could happen. With regards to ET, you're better off downloading from known and trusted gaming clan's servers, or turn downloads off in your game properties, and manually download the maps they require from one of several map repositories. Remember, all gamers are responsible for what they download. It's up to the individual to be aware of what they're allowing to enter their computer, not us, not evenbalance, not PsB, etc. You download at your own risk.
  6. Modding the fps is no biggie. As a player and SGA of the game myself, I don't recommend much over 80fps, as it runs more stable than going much higher. Mind, I only run one 8800GT OC2 512MB atm. That may change with the advent of adding a second vid-card, and not sure what your specs are. The human eye can apparently only see up to 60fps anyways, but the idea is to find your highest stable fps-rate, with gaming, regardless of the game. The idea mainly being stable. Nice to boast 1000fps, which I've seen people try for, but if it won't hold stable, is there much point? I found 80fps to be about ideal for COD4 given the quad-core Intel system I run with 2GB 667Mhz ram and the one 8800 stated above. Your specs may make a difference, as well, so keep that in mind.
  7. Glad to be of help. :) I gotta say, since I discovered Modern Rcon, I've not bothered looking at other programs for running the server remotely. HLSW, how-ever, is an excellent server admin tool as well, and it's also free. There are instructions on the forum on how to set it up as well, found here. http://www.pbbans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11208 The one nice thing about HLSW is that you can monitor several servers remotely at one time, from one very handy little program, even accross different gaming platforms.
  8. http://www.codhq.com/ Grab a copy of Modern Rcon at the link above, and if need be, simply run it in the background. You can alter maps, game-types, give rcon commands, make changes to various things while the server is running. Simply minimize the game with the Windows Start key, make your changes, and re-enter the game. Another option is to create different server.cfg files, naming them in some sort of sequence known to you and have the different types of game-types and map rotations set up. You can then simply run an rcon command of exec server.cfg (sequence number or name of particular config) and the server will load it, if you do this from the console while in-game. Example. server.cfg is your default that the server will run with a hard-reboot from your control panel. Say it runs stock maps, ranked, in TDM. server2.cfg could be city maps only, running in DM or search and destroy, or what-ever game-type you choose. You login with /rcon_password "rconpassnoquotes" and type in exec server2.cfg file, the server does a soft reboot, and the new config takes effect without kicking all of your players.
  9. Rename your pb older in the game's install folder pb_old. Now create a new pb folder simply named pb(lower-case). Go to www.evenbalance.com and download the latest PBSETUP.exe file, slide it into the new pb folder and run the .exe file. This will create a brand new set of pb files for your game and should fix your problem for you. Just make sure that your a/v and firewall are not blocking the PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe files that are created as a result. Some users end up with the A and B files set to manual in their Windows Services list. To fix this, once you've updated, simply open up your control panel, open Administrative Tools and Services. Now find PnkBstrA.exe in the list of running services, right click it, and select Automatic. Since A starts B, you'll need to start the game, log into a pb-enabled server, and then minimize the game. Refresh the Services list and now find PnkBstrB.exe in the list and right click and select Automatic for it as well.
  10. You're most welcome, and glad it's working. Not everyone seems to get it working right off, somewhere's between Vista and XP and such. Most of the information works cross-platform, but once in a while Vista glitches something up due to how people learning the new curve of it don't quite do it right. I'll be re-installing it next week on a second drive just to test it out and offer more support in that manner.
  11. The server admin needs to definitely be notified as to how to connect his server to a master. Sounds like he updated to the 1.4 patch and didn't do the mandetory 30 minute shut-down and reboot after, as well as get players on it. Secondly change the masterserver list in his configs to cod4. Most of the posted configs show the masterserver list as cod2 because someone decided to copy his cod2 server.cfg over to cod4 to use it, and while it works, didn't update enough things to make them work properly. // Master servers set sv_master1 "cod2master.activision.com" set sv_master2 "cod2authorize.activision.com" set sv_master3 "cod2master.infinityward.com" set sv_master3 "cod2update.activision.com" set sv_master4 "master.gamespy.com:28960" set sv_master5 "master0.gamespy.com" set sv_master6 "master1.gamespy.com" set sv_master7 "clanservers.net" set sv_gamespy "1" This is an example. All Masters need to be changed to COD4 to work properly in your server.cfg or what-ever you've named the file and exec.
  12. If you can prove he's still hacking via pb screenshots(multiple or at least one really evident one) you can always send them to evenbalance.com's e-mail. You could also perhaps take the time to go to the websites that go with those pb-enabled servers and get them informed as to the benefits of streaming, posting a link to here, and let them choose to become SGA's. You're not allowed to post information from the PBBANS site without express permission, but linking to the site itself and perhaps making more BF-series clans aware of it and it's benefits will only aid your cause. Narrow down the number of servers he can play on by recruiting more streaming game admin. ;)
  13. Head over to www.evenbalance.com and download the PBSETUP.exe from their site, then slide it into your pb folder in the game's install folder and run the exe to update your pb files. Other than that, make sure that your firewall doesn't block PnkBstrA and B.exe files once installed.
  14. Perhaps you're not aware of how we work here? First off, we do not ban IP's or player names. We ban GUID's. GUID's are unique to the player and CD-key per-game. Any evidence is also backed up by 100% MD5 verifiable streaming logs, and these are very exacting. You're not dealing with the "I'm not hacking" and ok "We believe you" types here. We can and will back up what is delivered to us for streaming logs, and one of your buddies happenned to fall into that....well, I'm sure that was a "terrible accident" or he just happenned to do something absolutely stupid like download a hack we know about. Your answer for him is somewhere's between shit and syphillous in the dictionary... and I do believe sympathy falls into that line.....none here. ;)
  15. Last 8 digits of guid are all that is needed. If he's convicted, he can put in a trouble ticket with evenbalance. Any bans here stand based on 100% proof-positive evidence. If found guilty, he's done. No exceptions.
  16. It wouldn't do them much good to advertise their hacks as being detected, thus all those sites say their hacks are not detected by PB. As for stopping it? If you're streaming, and are a hands-on admin of your server, you're already doing the best thing you can be doing to rid gaming of the problem.
  17. Rcon can see slots as 0 when in fact the player is in slot 1. This is usually best attempted when you're on the server alone, or with just your crew. You can password the server and make it known only to your clan for testing purposes. Get the job done, and then un-pass the server again.
  18. Get you banned pretty quick. It's a cvar related to a known hack.
  19. In your game's console you can enter /cl_maxpackets and a number between 35 and 100. Play with it a bit, as the results vary per person, internet connection and hardware. Also in console, type /cg_drawfps 1 or simple to put the fps-counter on the top right of your screen. Now take a good look at what your most stable frame-rate is and enter into the console /com_maxfps and that number. By default the pbbans.cfg's have fps limited to Out 43 meaning your base-line fps number will start at 44, so choose a number between 44 and 100 depending on your hardware. These are not cheats, they're commonly used settings to help improve the performance of older hardware.
  20. PB will only kick for 2 minutes if the files are not up to date. There are various other reasons for pb-kicks as well, but these are not bannable offences. Things like communication errors, which are generally just connectivity issues on the player's end of things, etc. An error-kick will not get you placed on the MBI/MBL.
  21. Post the last 8 chars/digits of your pb_guid here. Log into the game, open console and type /pb_myguid and simply post the last 8 numbers/letters here that apply.
  22. We don't ban here unless you're streaming to us and can provide streaming status and streaming logs. AON is a great site, btw, but unfortunately for you, we've got our own rules here, and those have to be up-held. You do know you can dual-stream to AON and to us for COD4 servers? If you need help getting it set up, let us know. One of the admin/staff will be more than willing to help you out there.
  23. Added to xfire. I don't have ts installed atm, never really liked it much.
  24. I think you'd be rather amazed at how vigilant and well-informed evenbalance is. While it may take time to get a hold of a particular hack, and then disect it to see how it works, they're on it. Reporting such sites to them, sending them demo's as well as posting those demo's here, etc will go a long way in keeping them up to speed on new hacks that are out there. Believe me, they want to hear from you if you've got information that can help them improve the system and tighten the net.
  25. For ease of keeping track, try and keep this issue in your original thread so we can see what you've done and be able to help with what's next. What response do you get from the server, once rebooted, by typing in /rcon pb_sv_uconlist? In case you're relatively new to using rcon, and are doing this from in-game, make sure you've logged into rcon first. Type /rcon_login "passwordwithoutquotes" into the game's console. From there you can simply type in the /rcon commands one at a time. I'm not sure if this is the case, but double-checking to make sure you're actually logged in properly before entering the commands. If you need extra help, feel free to pm me. I also run my own cod4 server and have had to enter the rcon commands a few times to get servers streaming in the past. Am more than willing to give you a hand if needed.
