*TRB* Wolfhowler
Do you think server companies will be charging extra to upgrade from ts2 to ts3, I am paying quarterly and don't want to pay for another 3 months just to get ts3. Lucky_Fr4gg3r
The official TS3 beta server details are actually filled in already if you hit connect. Wasn't working before, but it is now. Protip: Turn off the sound notifications of people joining/leaving/switching before you join the server, or you will go insane.

Kolor
Errrrm, just me is this not backward compatible with TS2 servers? If that is the case the dev's at TS need a slap.

MaydaX
Errrrm, just me is this not backward compatible with TS2 servers? If that is the case the dev's at TS need a slap. Q: Can I upgrade my TeamSpeak 2 server database to TeamSpeak 3?A: No. Too many things changed. New protocol, new format, new user management system, new everything... Q: Can I connect with a TeamSpeak 2 client on TeamSpeak 3 or vice versa? A: No. TeamSpeak 2 and 3 are not compatible. So a client can only connect to the same server version. But of course you can continue using your TeamSpeak 2 client until your favourite servers have updated to TeamSpeak 3. Makes sense, mw2 can't connect to a cod4 server :P
Duality
TS3 will be adopted pretty quickly tbh - even beta 1 is awesome.
Kolor
Makes sense, mw2 can't connect to a cod4 server :P Fair enough, I'll be honest and say I didn't bother reading any of the docs. I was just responding to players queries and confirmed this myself. In which case it would have been nice of TeamSpeak to include a download link to the v2 on their temporary page. Lucky_Fr4gg3r
I still prefer the new Mumble 1.2 (Clicky) over any other VOIP, but TS3 is a massive improvement over TS2. Pretty sure Ventrilo will start noticing the competition. Ventrilo's main selling point so far has been voice quality, which is now matched by TS3. Important - Take note! =============================================================================== === Client Release 3.0.0-beta2 - 20 Dec 2009 === - Fixed a problem where the client could not store some passwords correctly, the stored version was always trimmed to only a few characters - When entering hostnames/ips with trailing or leading spaces this could lead to the client not being able to connect. We now ignore trailing and leading white space. - Fixed a crash while destructing tts - Fixed a crash with hoster banner - Fixed a problem where the "Glance" button could cause a client assertion to fail (which terminated your client). - fixed possible crash with whisperlist * Renamed sound packs to better (more descriptive) names * Replaced the previous default sound pack with a less verbose version - Play stop talking wav, even in TTS profile - Bandwidth limit when edited in virtual server edit dialog now accepts bigger values - Fixed a crash that could occure on connect when connecting with a hostname instead of by IP - Mute headphones now also stops you from sending, since this what casual users expect. The functionality to mute only your headphones and still be able to transmit will return in a future build. === Client Release 3.0.0-beta1 - 19 Dec 2009 === * Initial beta release

RC-Hunter
In the meantime up to beta10 Server Side: === Server Release 3.0.0-beta10 27 Dec 2009 - Fixed bug that could lead to the server sending UDP packets with the network interface max capacity. Only systems with a instable system clock were affected. - Fixed a deadlock that could freeze the server so it no longer responded - fixed PERMISSION_b_channel_delete_* behaviour - prevent a memleak using pthread_create that could lead to a CRITICAL error message when the filetransfer port was attacked by many thousand connections + text messages added to flood protection (small) ! clientdblist takes now optional parameters "start" and "duration" default values are start=0, duration=25 === Server Release 3.0.0-beta9 26 Dec 2009 - prevent denial of service on filetransfer port, that could also cause ASSERT failures === Server Release 3.0.0-beta8 25 Dec 2009 - fixed possible crash while unregistering a query client - fixed possible case where clients got deleted from wrong groups + added CLIENT_IDLE_TIME, CONNECTION_CONNECTED_TIME to clientinfo + added CLIENT_VERSION, CLIENT_PLATFORM to clientlist (new parameter -info) + added VIRTUALSERVER_UNIQUE_IDENTIFIER to serverlist (new parameter -uid) ! VIRTUALSERVER_HOSTBANNER_GFX_INTERVAL dont accepts values between 1-59 There are a lot of complains about the voice qualities from half of the users. Playing around with all currently available codecs makes me feel the closest to the sound of a voice of a buddy I know in real life, using the lowest quality codec with a quality level of 7. TS3 looks good, but perhaps this is due to the fact it is new. Voice qualities are not improved much ... as far as I understand, there will be future codecs in the final release, probably much better in quality but higher latency though. The security system is impressive and features a much better system than earlier releases.
hellreturn
Kind of curious to know that is TS3 better then vent? Anyone using both? I might try it in next week but I would like to know more opinions. Thank you.
RoadWarrior
It still won't out-do Vent, imo. I've read about it, not tested it. Just reading results here and a few other forums has me convinced that Ventrilo is the way to go, as usual. Ventrilo works best for voice sound, major codec's and best connection. TS never has, and likely, never will, even with dedicated servers, it's antiquated, at best. My opinion, only. RW

RW I'd have to agree, I use both, TS2 (not version 3 yet) to chat to my own clan and sometimes Vent to chat to other clans, I find Vent more user-friendly (not sure if that's the right word) but I do prefer the latter.
