marrr
This is not a NFO-specific requirement, and as I've said in other posts, this is something that we would prefer not to have. We can't provide further information at this time, but I will post follow-ups to http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=5705 I'll lock this thread for now, because I don't want more speculation here, and because I am concerned that one of the staff might accidentally post more information than we are allowed to give in responding to a probing "let's narrow things down" question like this. Something fishy is going on.
MaydaX
Something fishy is going on. Sounds more like the teamspeak system where if you sell servers you have pay teamspeak a per slot cost. http://sales.teamspeakusa.com/pricing.php I'm doubting it's to cover the Windows 2008 server license at this point since RSPs could easily say that was the reason for the fee. Plus it would be a flat rate fee. It's starting to sound like BC2 and Black Ops again. Both shouted "we have dedicated servers" but left out the parts of no public server files, limited providers etc.

MaydaX
meh i'll be bouncing from borderlands/killing floor/RO2:HoS(if they get the streaming issue resolved) My biggest issue with RO2 is the WW2 setting. I just can't get into it like the rest of the WW2 shooters out there. Now if someone makes some modern day mods then I will look at it. I was interested in BF3 but the more I hear about it the more I want to stay with older "modern day" games. But Ro2 is the #1 WW2 game I played since I didn't give up after 15 minutes :)
buttscratcher
You guys go ahead and save your money - stay w/ cod4. Then everyone will be happy... You can play your 'ol faithful' till the cows come home. While we are saved from months and months of "woe is me" buyers remorse posts - when things are not absolutly perfect (or your perscpetion of how things "should" be) on Oct. 26th. :D Its no secret that some are haters waiting to pounce, just to show how ahead of the curve they are on all things gaming. I was lucky enough to play the b3 alpha, and loved it. Looking forward to the beta, so I can see if they fixed the few alpha issues I noticed. Give me a few 64 slot servers, a "hopefully" woking pb_ss system, and( w/ a little help from above) some sort of a demo/theatre utility and I am good to go! For those of us that prefer a "team play" gaming experience, with the e/candy a 2011 PC release deserves, theres only one true option. butt
HSMagnet
lol i was lucky enough to play bf3 alpha as well. exactly why i am not buying it :P not going back to cod4 either. if i go "back" it will be to Diablo II :o
RC-Hunter
I don't think this had anything to do with windows 2008.. Check out the dedicated servers from branzone.com for BF3.. https://secure.branzone.com/cart.php?a=confproduct&i=2 You see how it lists how many BF3 slots you can run... now the regular dedicated servers they sell http://www.branzone.com/services/dedicated/dallas.php Right, same at LowPing ... check the first option, although that is for a location in Germany only, but BF3 slots are limited as well. Besides the amount of slots looks reasonable for the overall price ... lol https://billing.lowpinggameservers.com/cart.php?gid=4 Edited September 16, 2011 by RC-Hunter
RC-Hunter
Sadly you have to be a current client of theirs to use that code, so good on them for giving a little extra back to their current customers. But no good for any new clients I believe that is not entirely correct. Check their main site http://www.LowPingGameServers.com ... besides the reasonable slot pricing already, they still give new customers a 10% discount on top. (seems that fits the "clients" coupon @ butt) Since the more slots on a server you purchase the cheaper it goes, you may pay for a 64 slot BF3 server just $1.26 , going for a month period. Going for 3 or more months, that comes down to $1.13 for the time of the subscription. I see no problem with that, being a happy customer for many server slots per months in a row since BC2.

marrr
Fee might be 25 cents per slot.. Managed VDS and managed dedicated server customers will be able to create BF3 servers after the game is released. However, customers will need to prepay a monthly amount per BF3 player slot they wish to run (much less than the standard rental fee). This is due to a unique requirement of BF3 that does not relate to the resource requirements of the game. This fee will likely be about 25 cents per slot, although the number has not been finalized yet. We will be providing the exact number and, we hope, why this surcharge has to exist, when the game is closer to release. These details will be posted here. http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=5705

buttscratcher
Did some looking around for prices on slot servers and came up with this list of providers. I've used a handful of them over the years, others I've not tried. Without going into meaningless detail, I wont be ordering from MYis or AOW. Forget why we dumped Hypernia, think it was support related. http://artofwarcentral.com/ http://www.branzone.com/index.php http://www.gameservers.com/ http://www.hypernia.com/game_servers-gaming.php http://myinternetservices.com/servers.php http://www.leetservers.com/order.php http://billing.lowpinggameservers.com/aff.php?aff=083 http://www.nfoservers.com/order.php http://vskgamingservers.com/game-servers/ http://wolfservers.com/ http://www.xfactorservers.com/game_servers.php Few of them dont have their B3 prices up yet (but they host other ranked BF games, so I expect them to) ... Hope the list may help some ppl make an informed decision on who to go with. Anyway, couldn't find an official current list so put this one together. MaydaX
Looking bad.. We cant even test out a real battlefield map  I have a feeling they don't want people to cancel pre-orders because their PC can't handle 64 players. Even at 32 players, the alpha was hard on my i5-2500K and GF 460GTX. Looking at BC2, it runs smoother with 24 players, MoH was 24 players, BF3 TDM is 24 players, consoles are 24 players. 24 seems to be the magic number with lower to mid range systems and I think many will get a rude awaking when they try to play on 64 player server in BF3.
