Snopes facts Was pretty sure I'd seen this one before, only it was slightly different. Sum it up, Ed Freeman was a real guy. The date of his death, how-ever is false, as is the lack of his getting any recognition. More at the link above. RW

Try re-entering your cd-key into the game. Could be you've simply mis-typed a character, and have gotten a generic GUID as a result. One of the other guys suggested this already, and it is a good place to start. RW
-
Do not do that. DO NOT EVER share your cd-key with anyone, for any reason. The key is yours and should only be used by you, and known to only you. This is to prevent you with issues regarding shared/stolen keys. RW

There's no MPI data on your particular GUID that I can find. Try joining 69.12.108.27:28930 and see if my personal server kicks you. RW

Your message means what it says. You were banned from the server you tried to connect to by a server admin. You'll have to take it up with them on their website/forums. RW

BestBuy Live Session with Devs for MW2 Being held this Tuesday, Nov 3/09 You'll have to deal with the time-zone issues on your end to figure out what time it will be in your area. A suggestion, though. If you're going to get involved, be polite, and only post/discuss with some education and relevance. Absolutely no fan-boy/bashing/MW2 sucks comments are going to help our cause. If the dev's are going to do anything positive in response to our cries for dedicated files, they do need to see that we indeed to care, and that there is a mature and sensible reasoning behind it.

The whole unlock issue....ftw. I personally like to re-start in COD4 and rank up once in a while. It's worth the time, just to re-enjoy the thrill of it all. Go play on a competition mod server, with no unlocks, and you really see the benefits of not having them at all. Ranking is really a console thing, and it's ruining pc-gaming in ways even losing dedicated servers can't. RW
-
Sounds like you were banned locally on that server. You'll likely have to take it up with the clan on their forums, if you can locate them. Other than that, all you can really do is find another server to play on. RW

Console and PC Gamers unite! Another petition that may get some attention. RW

If players can't get online, you will see one very expensive paper-weight sitting on a lot of computer desks. This idea of pairing/steam/vac is just horrible to think about. Thus far any pc-games that attempt to use this system are failing horribly. RW

PB_SV_ExtChar [0/1] The default setting of 0 tells PunkBuster to disallow extended ASCII Characters in player names; for the purposes of this command, characters that cannot be easily entered with simple keystrokes are considered extended Evenbalance.com It's a simple server setting, and is entirely optional for server admins to set up the way they like. If you're being kicked, you may simply have to remove the extended characters from your game name. RW

If the game does not have PB support, it will not be played by me! I am with you, SuperTaz and others, who support the cause. We unite under one name, namely PC-Gamers! Speak with your wallet on this one. MW2 should not be purchased by anyone who is a serious gamer. RW

We're gamers oursleves. Many of us run our own servers. We're also located all over the world. What might be day-time to you could be evening to me, given the difference. IRC is there for real-time support, but your patience is required. If you feel you've been ignored, a pm on the forums will be your best path to success. We will help you as we can, with time constraints. Remember, we volunteer to do the work done here, this has to fit into our regular everyday lives. We do not sit at our computers waiting for you to ask a question, but we will answer as soon as we can, when it is presented to us. RW

Help! Friend in the same neighborhood banned for hacking
RoadWarrior replied to The_Sniper_NM's topic in General Discussions
Server admins have their own responsibility to do due-dilligence when searching the MPi link. Most often, with certain games, some server-admin get a bit ban-happy, and do not search just the GUID itself, which is ultimately all that matters. Names do not matter, as names can be duplicated/spoofed. Go ahead and search my name in the MPi for gaming. WT|RoadWarrior is the gaming name. You'll find some fella in Brazil decided to copy my name, in COD4 and got banned for cheating. He has a different GUID. I can tell ya something, though....Being from Canada, if I manage to get to Brazil in my lifetime, for a holiday, gaming won't be on the itinerary. ;) I'll be out on the beaches staring at the topless women :P Doubtful I'd get banned for going there, as a result. Good news, Dedicated servers for BF Bad Company 2
RoadWarrior replied to Buff's topic in General Discussions
I think someone should copy all of that into a thread over at IW and get the console-fans interested ;) IW might just have to eat their shorts after seeing that one. RW -
No. we do not want your key to test. What you can do is enter a server with pb enabled, open your game's console to full-screen and copy down the last 8 characters of your GUID(shown in bright blue) and enter them into this thread. RW

I am 36, have members in my clan as old as 56, and some younger than I, as well, but average age is around 30+ regardless. We're not putting up with this, various members on twitter and so on. I refuse to get on twitter just to tweet to a spokesperson, I'll put it public on my own forums, and add the key-words so it gets hit with google. Google-bot hits my site lots, so does yahoo-bot, etc, I can include the key-words to trigger more hits. More my strategy, really. Boycot this game, and use your personal gaming sites to do so, and put the tools you have to work for you. Get IW to think twice, and support a different game, and let this one suck hind-tit. I won't be a part of this thread much further. RW

I can guarantee you with their explanation for the need for dedicated servers for both CONSOLE AND PC that they will get more popular. That's the part IW missed, when they decided to screw PC players, but they've also screwed the console fella's as well, so who really cares? I will say again, I want to game with my clan. I don't want to be paired up with the 13 yr olds down the street who may or may not be of the same skill level. I do not want to have to put up with VAC. I do not want to put up without having a branded server for my clan. I DO WANT to be able to play the games I love with the guys I've gamed with, both new and old to my clan, on a server that WE RUN and CONTROL! I DO WANT to be able to have PB ENABLED on my servers. I DO WANT to be able to have PBBANS STREAMING for said-servers. I DO WANT to have dedi-server files. I WILL NOT SUPPORT NOR BUY MW2 for said above reasons. I doubt they care, and I doubt they'll read this thread, but those are solid reasons, and if need be, my clan will move on to a game that is not IW produced, and will find another niche in the gaming world, and support it. MW2, without the above, will not be supported by my clan. If I can't game with my UK members as well as my US members and Canadian members on the same server due to piss-poor-pairing, I will not be playing the game, nor will my clan. RW

Good news, Dedicated servers for BF Bad Company 2

Never thought I'd say this about DICE/EA, but I'm looking forward to this release. RW -
I don't know why my COD4 GUID was banned
RoadWarrior replied to luiz127's topic in Hardware and General PC Issues
There are no MW2 servers. IW has chosen not to release dedi-files, and the PC-version will be just like the x-box, with local-pairing. May want to re-think that idea a bit, as they've sadly killed the next version of the game before it's even out, for us PC-players. Listen servers only, meaning you'll get paired up with those that are within that 2-6 block radius of you that have the game, and you might be the host, or they might, no ded-servers allocated. RW -
I don't know why my COD4 GUID was banned
RoadWarrior replied to luiz127's topic in Hardware and General PC Issues
Your cd-key has been leaked, which indicates you have installed something or downloaded something onto your computer that allows a trojan to find that sort of information. I would recommend a full re-format, and then buy a new game, and install it, and be more careful next time. Your GUID is currently being used in Denmark, Australia, and Canada. Nothing we can do about it, the ban will remain as it has been caught using a cheat, regardless of if it was you or not, and I realize it was not likely you. You are, how-ever, responsible for the security of your computer, and your personal information. Hopefully the cd-key is all that was taken, but such trojans also often look for other personal info like credit card numbers, etc. May come with a key-logger, etc. Format, change all passwords you use for forums, chat programs, etc, and yes, buy a new game, and you'll be fine. Make sure you install some decent security software and be careful where you travel on the internet. RW -
Welcome here! Feel free to come idle on our IRC channel as well, link at the top if you have java installed and do not have a client installed for IRC on your computer. RW

servers blacklisted
RoadWarrior replied to patchesanook's topic in Streaming Questions and Troubleshooting
No need to watch his IP, as he won't be allowed to stream to us, and as such, won't affect us in any way. Follow Surfy's instructions, and you and your clan should be good to go. RW -
Not to contradict Big_Guy21, as he is correct in the part where hooks can be a part of a cheat. There are legit programs that use them too. See Ventrilo overlay, for example, or X-Fire overlay as well as programs like EVGA's precision tool, to name a few. There are others. Many cheat-coders use the same/similar hooks to allow their cheat-menus to show over the game-screen so that alterations to the settings can be made on the fly, or to otherwise alter the game-play in some way. If this player is a regular on your server and forums, have him turn off any third-party software that may be causing his kicks, and see if the problem goes away. RW

I am for this idea as well. I think speaking with our filling CoD4 and WaW servers will say far more than not gaming at all will. If we don't game online, they'll think we're just playing the single-player version to get through it and get used to the new game. PC-Gamers UNITE!
