Thanks MaydaX, any ideas on the size of these maps? I'm not impressed with the maps supplied in the beta so can only hope, or should that be pray, that they are larger in the full game.

-opinion- government to licence internet?
xX_Renegade_Xx replied to killerwitharustyspoon's topic in General Discussions
This is probably Microsofts next attempt at combating piracy. The methods they are using at the moment must be failing so someone in an office somewhere has decided "I know, let's ask everyone to buy a license for the internet, that should work". I think their would be too much outrage from everyone that uses the internet to allow this to happen. -
Try less players SuperTaz, 24 players on a map of that size is ridiculous, I don't like the map size anyway, they are far too small. You know you can run btw :P I'm still undecided as of yet, I like the CQC of the game but I dislike the small maps, my game style is flanker, I do like to get behind the opfor and harass them as much as possible from the back but the map size limits my play style.

I didn't play the first beta so have no idea what has changed or been altered, a post I've just made on the Steam forums: I've not had any problems with the server browser or PB as some are getting. Also, it seems hacks are already out and in the beta so you guys/gals got your work cut out on a game that's not even released yet :(

Little surprised with the TF2 update (Mann-conomy), paying real cash for ingame items is not my thing, it is optional so that's one bonus but still very surprised they are taking this route, I just hope it's not the next 'new thing' from Valve :(

I haven't played this beta yet and judging from some of the comments I've read here and elsewhere it's not very good but the only way I can see for myself is to try it and see how it plays, pre-loading the open beta now.

I'm curious what other gamers think about the amount of DLC that's being released on PC at the moment, are they milking us for everything they can get or does it add new content that is worth the extra cost? I don't like DLC, wasn't this called an update at one point?, I don't have to buy it and will avoid doing so if possible but that causes problems when a percentage of the PC community do buy it and others don't, it causes a split in the community between the haves and have nots. Also, when a dev releases a new weapon pack, suit pack, car pack or whatever, is that worth my money when a modder could release the same packs for free and probably better quality too but is no longer given the chance due to modding restrictions. Your own views on DLC?

The full game is now released and if anyone is interested it is without any doubt the most terrifying game I've played to date, it really is atmospheric and the sounds you'll hear you'll be hearing in your sleep :o I actually had to stop playing at one point and take a break, it's very unnerving or I'm just a wimp :P

Great post Fozzer! I think the days of dedi servers and mod tools are slowly disappearing, even now the smaller indie companies are reluctant to release a game with dedi server support and as you've mentioned that comes down to long-term cost. The thing that confuses me is people appear blind to what is going on, games are released and within a very short period of time DLC is out and charged for, so the game you've just bought for

This isn't out yet, it's released on Sept 8th but the demo has just been released on Steam, I've just played through it and it's very atmospheric, that's all I'll say :o

This is currently on a weekend deal on Steam, 75% off all CoH titles :)

Realtime Worlds go into administration
xX_Renegade_Xx replied to Everson's topic in Gamers Sanctuary
Let's Go!! I was a big fan of lemmings, trying to save those pesky little critters from impending doom, well, sometimes ;) Such a shame to see yet another company going under, I've been made redundant a few times after the companies I worked for went into administration and the sad fact is the staff will probably be the biggest losers, they'll be told they'll still get paid and receive the bonuses they're expecting but it's highly unlikely they will get anything, in my last job our employer just kicked us all off site, no warning no nothing, you've worked here for a number of years and we're in major debt so bye bye, not nice :( -
I couldn't agree more, have a look at the ban list, from 3,700+ to over 175,500+ in 6 years, that is astounding. If it wasn't for sites like this I think I'd have given up gaming a long time ago! It does make me wonder what the site will look like in another 6 years time though.

Casual gamer springs to mind

As true as that is I don't think it will happen, call it hype or just a well-made trailer that gives the illusion of a great game, it's only after buying it that some of us realise just how bad it actually is. Typical example, Codemasters releasing Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising, they dropped support for the game and the community but announced recently a new Operation Flashpoint game called Red River which will be released next year. Another dev, Kaos Studios releasing Frontlines Fuel of War, I watched this game for about 3 months before release and when it was released Kaos seemed to drop all support and help for the gamers on the forums who were having problems, low and behold Kaos studios have a new upcoming game called Homefront. From the look of the trailer of one of those they will still sell so it seems no matter how bad a dev is people will still buy their games.

Needs confirmation I think although if it is confirmed then it's a sad day for a lot of us eagerly awaiting this games release. I remember the first time I booted up BF2, omg, what a game! Happy days and then I found a shiny new jet

QFT! I'll see how this goes, I've stopped pre-ordering any games for the time being.

An old-school gamer myself and I'm a little disappointed with what I've heard/read/seen about this game too, I enjoy MoH and was really looking forward to this but as with MW2, my money stays in my wallet for the time being. Sniper Ghost Warrior, another game I was looking forward to and when it was released (this could now be fixed) no prone was available, a sniping game without a prone option :o The only thing I hate about this new generation of gamers is the 4 word expletives that seem to be common place now, at one time I remember you could shoot another player and you'd get a reply, nice shot or good shot, not any more, it's now **** you, you ******* **** **** ****
-
Wow, I've been looking forward to this release too :( That is very true, you're either regarded as someone who needs to learn to play properly by other gamers or ignored completely by the devs. I bought BC2 and I learned my lesson from that!

I didn't think I'd agree with you and assumed that with the bad hit registration it would be resolved in a patch, unfortunately, that's not the case, the game just infuriates me and I stopped playing it over a week ago. I'd be the first to admit if I couldn't aim correctly but their's bad aim and then their's shots that you know have hit yet no kill, many times I've put a full magazine into a player from 30 feet away and still nothing. I know it's not just me too as others have had the same issue as there are many posts on the Steam forums about the hit reg. Edit: I've gone back to CS:S, at least I know those weapons are deadly and will take a player out with the minimum of hits :D

Crytek envisages a future with no free demos
xX_Renegade_Xx replied to MaydaX's topic in Gamers Sanctuary
Unfortunately, that is true but if they are going to push this charge through that's going to have to improve drastically, if the demo doesn't work (after paying money for it) then I can see a lot of players just waiting for the sales or not bothering at all with the full game. Even now the free demos are only working for some players and some still have problems with them yet they want to consider charging for them in the near future  -
Crytek envisages a future with no free demos
xX_Renegade_Xx replied to MaydaX's topic in Gamers Sanctuary
I do play Crysis, single player only though and am very surprised that yet again piracy is brought up as an issue, it always has been an issue as far as I'm aware so anything that reduces that has to be a good thing. As for the charging (possibly) for demos that's another story entirely, I'm presuming that we will 'all' now get a working demo if money is involved and if that's not the case then I'm sure that will affect sales so I don't know if charging for demos is good or bad. I like the free demos, they give me a taste of the game and then I can decide if I want to buy the game or not, if they are charging for demos then I'm not so sure I'll be trying before I buy anymore and might just wait until it's knocked down in price. We're in effect paying for the same game twice, albeit a slightly reduced cost for a taster.
