Call of Duty: Black Ops

Treyarch has until this weekend to fix the lag. After that I will be demanding a refund from D2D. This is totally unacceptable for a PC game in 2010 built on a modified engine that is what 10 years old?

I have two more that are a lot worse but youtube is behind for processing atm.

It seems every thread on either the official CoD forums or Steam forums has this.

"OMG BLACK OPS IS LAGGIN HERE MY SPECS"

"DUDE IT'S UR COMPUTER NOW STFU"

"I RUN OTHER GAMES FINE SO STFU"

"NO U STFU"

Well ok, before GameServer's official statement came out about it.

We've had an official response from Gameservers.com regarding the performance issues that are effecting PC owners of Call of Duty: Black Ops. Service representative, Beau Young, has told us that "there is a known issue with major FPS lag on the servers, even with a low number of players. Treyarch is aware of this and we are in contact with them to find a resolution for it as soon as possible."

As for Australians on Telstra Wholesale hardware, who are pinging above 200 to local servers, Beau says "there are also some routing issues in some of the locations that are causing higher pings than there should be. We have documented this, but for the moment are only able to focus on the issues with the game that are affecting everyone."

"Once we have gotten the 'launch day' bugs all isolated and resolved, we will be able to spread our attention to several other issues affecting the game," Beau assures us. Valve has unofficially taken no responsibility for the problems, with a new post on Steam's Black Ops forum stipulating your requirement to contact Activision support for all matters concerning network and hardware performance.

Well, there you have it! Fingers crossed for a speedy resolution. In the meantime, check out our Call of Duty: Black Ops tweaks and fixes thread for some consolation improvements.

Still, glad I haven't touched it yet. Maybe I should start looking towards those free Steam code giveaways just for the heck of it :P

Geebus Christ guys, take a deep breath or two, lol B)

The game has not been out for 24 hours yet. Lemme quote 'ol Johnny Cocheran , and remind everyone "lets not rush to judgement".

Got to play some TDM with the guys tonight, and had alot of fun. Learning new maps is a bit of a pain. But most all of the ones I played are really cool! I bet for those running a top flight rig, they are even better than as I experienced. Not all the eye candy of other recent games, but a better overall "feel", if that makes any sence...The lean feature isn't something I've had in a long time, and will be glad to get to use that again. Had a very good time, all the way around. No lag, no problems staying connected from TX to NY.

The Rcon didn't save my server messages, and had to re-do them. Wish there was a bit more control on server options, but give it time. I bet even that will get sorted. Did have the chop/lag in SP, but no biggie.

lag TT still open/no response yet

server not showing in server browser TT closed w/ this answer

Hi GoBlinARMY

We apologize for the inconvenience of not being able to find your server in the browser list. We have communicated directly with Treyarch/Activision on this issue. They are aware and are working on improvements to make this more functional based on the input received thus far. We are also collecting data and information to see if there's anything else we can recommend you to do to give your server a better chance of showing on the browser list.

Due to huge volume of traffic that is occurring on the back-end systems, a temporary fix was put into place to randomly limit the amount of servers that are listed on the browser. This is a temporary fix and we will provide an update once it has been fixed.

We have checked and double checked all of our hardware, software, and network infrastructure. We have determined that this issue is not a result of anything going wrong on our end on any of those three fronts based on the data we have collected. We are doing everything we can to assure that our end is stable and maintains maximum efficiency.

We appreciate your patience on the matter, and will remain in contact with Treyarch/Activision through this problem's resolution, along with any other problems we have already or will come across in the future.

Kind Regards,

"h4x [GS]"

Steve Clark

Reading this topic I'm a happy man... didn't buy the game and not about to either.

Nothing surprising really... just as I thought - FUBAR like MW2 with exception of dedicated servers (dedicated to hackers that is...).

Maybe they're pre-empting a flood load of SPAM and Porn like the IW forums got after the MW2 release...

Oh well I guess there's the gameservers.com forums to go whine on.

Honestly if the lag issue isn't fixed by Monday I will be asking D2D for a refund on the game. Absolutely no excuse for the excessive lag due to extreme CPU usage. Did they even QA the PC version using the minimum requirements for hardware? Better yet, did they even QA it at all?

Now I'm one of many who can't even play MP because it's that bad for lag. Oh well another new game release and I'm still falling back to older games like CoD4. Why am I buying new games again?

Because we dream of the next great game... only to have our dreams crushed, shattered, burned, and flushed down the toilet.

Complete dump of string names (=>5 / Null terminated and Unicode) attached (expands to 23MB so don't attempt to open in Notepad).

Plenty of stuff in there regarding hosting servers, if I get a chance over the weekend I'll sit down with it and see if the functionality is actually there.

Well my copy finally turned up today (Cheers Tesco )

Installed from disc quickly... no problems with Steam trying to download the whole game for me.

Played about 40 mins or so of multiplayer. Didn't have one single lag pause or any kind of rubber banding.

The only issue I do have is seriously poor FPS in certain places on maps. I'm assuming this is down to the performance bug in the game where it uses 100% of your CPU and therefore bottlenecks the graphics card?
